Get Ready for Convention!
September 17, 2015 - Rabbit show people everywhere are getting ready for this year's ARBA Convention in Portland, Oregon. The NWAA is hosting this year's Convention for Angora exhibitors. They have a lot of convention information on their web site.
Margaret Bartold, NARBC secretary, wrote the below packing list for Convention goers headed to the Wichita, KS convention years ago, but it is still relevant today.
Going to Convention?
What to pack for bunnies and owner!
For those of you who are ‘first-timers’ and ‘experienced’ exhibitors packing for convention can always be a challenge, especially if you are flying to the show or are limited on space. So I thought I would compile a list of items I usually take to convention that may assist you. See you soon!
Bunny Suitcase:
Food
Water
Water bottles
Feed bowls/crocks
Hay or straw
Bunny treats/toys (cheerios, dried pineapple, dried cranberries, shredded wheat, etc.)
Wire risers
Puppy pads to put under the risers (makes cleaning much easier and helps eliminate odor)
Grooming brush, comb, etc.
Grooming powder or cornstarch
Nail clipper
Blower
Grooming table
Grooming apron
Folding chair
Plastic bags (to put wool in while you’re grooming and some for cleaning cages)
Plastic gloves
Paper towels
Wet wipes
Zip ties-large and small (I use the large ones to attach the water bottles to the cages and small ones to fix the cages)
Locks for cages (can also use zip ties)
Cardboard or feed sacks to put around cages (don’t want the next door neighbor spraying or chewing)
Disinfectant spray for cages before putting the bunny into their new home for the week
Triple antibiotic ointment
Sharpie pen and ink pen
Paper to take notes
And of course…the bunnies!!
Owner Suitcase:
Now if you have room for your suitcase, the owner should pack clothing that is comfortable! Of course, you can always buy an NARBC t-shirt or sweatshirt at the booth. Don’t forget your entry confirmation, show catalog, ARBA card, items for the raffle, w/s/g contest entries, and snacks for you! Come prepared to have a good time…meet new friends and reminisce with those you’ve met at other shows.

SARC Members Do Well at Convention! November 5, 2012

Several SARC members showed their Angora rabbits at this year's National Convention in Wichita, KS.
Dana Faber's Satin Angora doe placed Best Opposite Sex. Sasha McPherson's Satin Angora plucked wool entry placed 3rd and Kelly Flading's English Angora clipped wool entry also placed 3rd in NARBC's wool/skein/garment contest. Congratulations to everyone who participated.
This year's Convention was especially exciting since the Best Of Breed English Angora owned by Linda Cassella won Best In Show!!
Next year's National Convention will be held in Harrisburg, PA. Even if you do not have show rabbits, you can still participate by entering wool, spinning a skein of yarn, creating a garment or needlefelting. These items can be mailed in for those not attending. This is a great way to further your enjoyment of your Angora rabbit.
By the way, ARBA's 2014 National Convention will be held in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX! There will be even more opportunity for SARC members to join in the fun a little closer to home.

Get Your Vote In... for TARC's Name Change! September 29, 2012

When our little club first started, one of our goals was to become affiliated with ARBA. When looking at the different ways our club can charter with ARBA, we discovered that the best long term solution for our club would be to charter with ARBA as a regional club. This would allow us to continue to serve our Texas members and those who have joined outside of our state. It would also possibly fill a void of Angora clubs in our part of the country.
TARC Board of Directors voted recently to charter as a regional club. That's great news! But, we now need a name for a club that better reflects the region of the country our club will serve.
Here are the three name choices:
Southern Angora Rabbit Club
Southern Trails Angora Rabbit Club
Southern Country Angora Rabbit Club
A letter should be arriving in the mail to club member home addresses. Adult club members can vote in three ways. Online and email voting is due at 11:59pm on October 8th. Letter voting postmarked due by October 8th:
1. Mark your choices and return the letter to the address listed.
2. Vote online via our web form link HERE. 3. Email your name choice to the club at texasangorarabbitclub@gmail.com.

Support Your Local Clubs September 2, 2012

The Texas Angora Rabbit Club is a state/regional specialty club, but it is not your only resource for rabbit fun and information. Local all-breed clubs actually put on the shows that most of us attend. Without our local clubs, there would be no shows, no time with our rabbit friends, and no promotion of rabbit breeds.
It is very important to be involved with your local groups. The next time you go to a show in your home area...ask about the club that hosted the show. A list of Texas Rabbit Breeders Association affiliated clubs is here. Louisiana State Rabbit Breeders Association's affiliated club listing is here. Our friends in Oklahoma can check here. Find one in your area, volunteer your time and increase your overall rabbit experience.
TARC Vice President Ricardo Gonzalez (Road To Angora) has a wonderful article in our club's September newsletter about this very topic. Check it out in your email inbox!

TARC's Holds Its First Webinar! July 14, 2012

TARC President Sasha McPherson joined 9 other attendees for our club's first webinar, Angora 101. She covered how to find the right Angora rabbit for you, housing your Angora, nutrition, and grooming.
Sasha's English Angora, Candy, was an excellent model as Sasha demonstrated how to groom, clip nails, and remove mats from an Angora rabbit. Sasha also shared tips on how to clip your Angora rabbit.
We hope that everyone was able to get some valuable information to help them make the best choices for their rabbits.
TARC does plan on holding future webinars to address all aspects of club interests such as showing Angoras, genetics, using your Angoras fibers, and others.

ETRBA Spinning Demo & TARC Angora Harvest June 16, 2012

Visitors and exhibitors who attended the East Texas Rabbit Breeders Association Show in Longview, TX were treated to a small spinning demonstration by Sasha and Dana.
Fellow TARC members also brought their Angora rabbits for a community clipping (or plucking) of Angora wool. The air conditioned facility was a huge hit for our Angora rabbits as June is quite hot here.
ETRBA's first show was a resounding success with 1,600 entries. Make plans next year to attend this one. The 2013 show is scheduled for June 14-15.
Check out more pictures from the Longview, TX show in the photo album on the home page (lower right hand corner).

SARBA Show Spinning Demo March 24, 2012

TARC members Sasha McPherson (Sasha's Haven) and Dana Faber (Gray Haven Farms) demonstrate spinning at the March 2012 SARBA Show. We drew quite a crowd as folks were eager to learn more about turning fiber into yarn. These ladies are amazing! The demo was such a hit that they were invited to the East Texas Rabbit Breeders Association's show in Longview, TX this June.
